Biography

Civil Engineer from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1985), with a MSc. degree in Hydraulics and Sanitation from the University of São Paulo (1991), Specialization (D.E.A. - 1992) and Doctorate (DSc. - 1996) in Physique et Chimie de l'Environnement from the Institut National Polytechnique of Toulouse, France. Full Professor at the Department of Oceanography (DOCEAN), researcher at the Center for Risk Studies and and Environmental Modeling (CEERMA), and vice-rector of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). Co-coordinator of the Working Group 1 Scientific Base of Climate Change of the Brazilian Panel on Climate Change, and member of its Scientific Committee. Coordinator of the Brazilian Research Network on Global Climate Change - Rede CLIMA, and member of its Scientific Committee. Member of the Author Team for the Atlantic Ocean Observing System Blueprint (2018-2019). Member of the Author Team for the Tropical Atlantic Observing System - TAOS Review (2018-2021). Co-leader of WP1/CT1 - Large-scale circulation, eddy dynamics, upwelling and mixing of the H2020 TRIATLAS Project (2019-2023). Expert Reviewer of Working Group I (WGI) of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6-IPCC). Member of the National Antarctic Research Committee (CONAPA) and member of the Life Science Group of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). Member of the Commission Régionale d'Experts Économiques et Scientifiques (CREES) de l'Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
